A vertical challenge - follow the Burgsteiner Wand route to new heights in the heart of the Tyrol.

The only way is up on this extreme iron road – the Burgsteiner Wand awaits…

A mixed via ferrata and sports climbing location in the heart of the Tyrol, tackling rough granite ledges and slacks to the summit that offers an outstanding panorama over the valley floor. Explore the exposed rock face – leaning back in the harness for added thrill factor!

Meet your instructor at the activity base in Sautens for this via ferrata excursion on the Burgsteiner Wand. Suitable for experienced climbers only, this challenging half-day adventure navigates a 300m high rock wall up to the summit of Burgsteiner Wand (2,360m) – following an iron road up and almost vertical granite face. Starting with a short safety briefing from your guide, you will clip into the lead wire and start your ascent of the cliff line. A physically demanding climb secured all along by a wire rope, clamps and rungs, it is considered a D route on the UIAA Austrian rating. Obstacles include a steep, slightly overhanging, grade-C/D wall, a grade-B/C steep rock climb, a grade-B traverse, and a grade-D scarp at the end. There are three resting areas along the way – but don’t loiter, views from Stubai and the Ötztal Alps are waiting for you at the top! After catching your breath, there’s a 45min hike back down to the town, where you will return to the activity base to celebrate the achievement with a few light refreshments at the end.

Conditions
The Burgsteiner Wand is a protected, fixed rope climbing route equipped with fixed clamps, cables and pegs– accessed using a two-clip wire and slide karabiner system. A very steep and challenging route for experienced climbers only, it rates B-D on the Austrian UIAA scale. Mountaineering boots and gloves recommended.
