Husky Safari and Salmon Ice Fishing from Rovaniemi

Enjoy an exceptional day in Arctic nature from Rovaniemi, trying traditional Finnish ice fishing and riding with huskies through the snowy landscape. Welcoming adventurers of all ages on this family-friendly excursion!

Rovaniemi is the largest city in Finnish Lapland. The region is characterised by diverse landscapes, snowy forests and frozen lakes. Ice fishing and dog sledding are two authentically Finnish activities, which are perfect for discovering the unique Arctic nature!

The full-day excursion will begin with pick-up from your location in Rovaniemi. You will be driven outside of Rovaniemi to a region called Parpalandia, where you will be provided with thermal outwear, so you feel comfortable during the activity. When you are ready, you will start with the ice fishing adventure!

The experienced guide will introduce you to ice fishing and explain the best techniques to catch a fish in the winter. You will be taken to a frozen lake, where the guide will show you how to drill a hole in the ice and set up your equipment. Salmon is the species of fish that is found in this lake. Catching one is not guaranteed, you still need a bit of luck and patience, but chances are much higher than in other places. If you do catch a fish, you can keep it (one salmon between each couple).

Afterwards, you will receive the instructions for husky sledding. At the starting spot, each sled with be shared between two, with one driving and one sitting in the sled. There will be an opportunity to switch places midway, and children can stay in the sled with an adult. You will be set up with your own team of excitable Huskies. You will feel the strength of the dogs as they start pulling your sled through the Lappish landscape. Take in the beautiful nature while pausing to capture photos.

After the ride, you will gather in a traditional kota, a wooden Finnish hut. A small meal of salmon soup and hot drinks will be prepared around a fire. If you caught a fish, you can have it smoked on location or take it and prepare it at home. As you warm up, the guide will share stories about life in this remote location and more about the Husky breed. After lunch, you will return to Rovaniemi.
