Immerse yourself in a dolphin’s world with this unforgettable experience in the gorgeous waters of Kaikoura.
Here is your chance to encounter and play with some of the most joyful, social, and happy dolphins of Kaikoura. Together you will leap and dive through the water as there is truly no greater feeling than the freedom of swimming with dolphins in the wild. These dusky dolphins are waiting for you to come along for the ride.
The journey will start off on a boat where your instructor will take you out into the waters. Take a look around as the open ocean is ahead of you and the stunning Kaikoura coast around you. It’s just you, the sky, the ocean…and the dolphins! These friendly creatures will come around as you get into the water and will take you for a swim. In case you are a bit nervous, not to worry, a professional instructor will be on board ensuring you are as safe as possible.
This experience is the best way to encounter these dusky dolphins in a safe, humane, and environmentally-friendly manner. In fact, a portion of your fare directly contributes to the team’s Encounter Foundation, supporting projects that actively improve Kaikoura’s natural environment through conservation, education, and research. Do not miss out on this unique opportunity to get close to dolphins while being environmentally responsible!
Dolphin swimming is sold out over the christmas period, if you wish to go on the boat to watching the dolphins and be on the waiting list for swimming book through this link.
All swimmers are fitted with a good quality wetsuit prior to departure which comprises a full body one piece overall and a 7mm jacket. A hood, mask, snorkel and fins are also provided.
Swimmers are advised to take their warm clothing on board with them because at the end of the swim, the best idea is to take the wetsuit off and pull on warm dry clothing. This helps you to warm up again while the tour concludes.
Being an experienced swimmer is helpful but it is not essential just as long as you are confident in the water. Flotation devices such as kickboards and buoyancy aids will be available if a little extra assistance is needed.
Please note that crew do not enter the water on tours.
