Location
Milford Sound (Piopiotahi) is considered the 8th Natural Wonder of the World. A large fjord on New Zealand’s South Island, the waterway is part of Fiordland National Park and the Te Wahipounamu World Heritage site. It’s known for its towering Mitre Peak and Jurassic rainforests, home the country's national bird - the Kiwi. The protected waterways are rich in marine life like seals, penguins and dolphins - along with a form of rare black coral.

Activity
Meeting at the airfield in Wanaka, this four-hour scenic flight and cruise to Milford Sound will start with a 45 min aerial excursion to Milford across the Cardrona Valley, the Dart Valley and Glenorchy. Arriving in Milford Sound, transfer to the fjord for a 2-hour (16km) cruise along the waterway - passing Stirling and Bowen falls, the Mitre peaks and on the lookout for marine life. Meet your pilot at the end of the cruise for a return 45-minute flight across two national parks and views over the Southern Alps - including the peak of  Mount Aspiring, the Matukituki Valley, Olivine ice Plateau and Lake Wanaka.

Conditions
Available all year round, Milford Sound has a temperate climate with mild summers (Dec–Feb) and cool winters (Jun–Aug). Penguins and seals tend to be more active in the cooler months (Jun–Aug).
