Activity description

Join an authentic reindeer sledding excursion in Tromsø and immerse yourself with the Sami and their reindeers, while admiring the magical Northern Lights!

If you're looking for an authentic activity in Tromsø, look no further. Come spend the day with the indigenous Sami people and discover the ancient lifestyle of Northern Norway, including the oldest form of transport in the North, reindeer sledding. This evening tour offers excellent opportunities to experience the majestic Northern Lights lighting up the Arctic night sky!

You will meet your guides directly in Tromsø and embark on a 90-minute scenic-ride to the wilderness center in Camp Tamok. Take in the majestic sceneries as you make your way to the camp! Upon arrival, you will receive warm overalls, and all the necessary gear for reindeer sledding. Then, following a thorough safety briefing, you will head out to the Sami Camp to meet your new furry friends!

As Lapland is home to the indigenous Sami people, this excursion will teach you plenty about the ancient Sami culture. A Sami guide will accompany you along your reindeer sledding tour, and you will be able to exchange stories while you revel in the natural wonders of Finnmark’s landscapes! With a little bit of luck, the Auroras will make their appearance and dance right above you.

During your outing, you will even get an introduction to lasso throwing, which is a central skill for the Sami survival in the Arctic North. Once you're back at the camp, you will have some time to get up close with the friendly reindeers and feed them. They are always happy to receive their favorite treats!

Then, you will sit around the open fire in a Sami tent and enjoy a delicious homemade Norwegian soup or stew, complemented with bread, coffee, tea and water. Taste the local flavors while listening to some fascinating stories about the Sami culture and their connection with the reindeers! Take in the overall beauty of the camp and say your final goodbyes to these incredible creatures before you head back to Tromsø.

Book your reindeer sledding excursion in Tromsø and get up close with the reindeers, learn about the Sami culture, and take a glimpse of the colorful Northern Lights lighting up the Arctic night sky!

The reindeer sledding and the talk around the campfire about Sami culture was very nice! I would have preferred it if we could have gotten more fish soup at the end; it was delicious

It was well organized and very informative. I appreciated learning about the Sami culture and customs. The food was good and they gave us snow suits to keep us warm.

It was top !!

Exactly as described — reindeer sledding, discussion with the reindeer owner, and we were lucky enough to also see northern lights!

  • 3.5 / 5

The reindeer sledding itself was a little underwhelming. It was however very interesting to learn about the Sami culture. The Sami tent we were in talking about the culture was very smoky because of the fire. It was nice to be warm, but the smoke was quite strong.

The activity was well planned, not intensive and exciting. Learnt a lot about Sami culture and significance of Reindeers. Food and drinks were very nice, overall would highly recommend this activity if you want to learn about the Sami culture

It was a relaxing little trip, the reindeer pulled you through the snow in slow pace. Wasn’t lucky enough to see the northern light that night, but wouldn’t mind try doing this trip again in the day light to get a better view of the surrounding.

La sortie en traîneau à rennes est courte. Heureusement qu’il y avait des aurores boréales ce soir-là.

Had a good reindeer sledding. Reindeer cart was not comfortable and sledding time. I expected little more.

We did the reindeer sledding. Honestly, it couldn't have been a more perfect night for reindeer sledding. Aurora came out that night while we were sledding with our reindeer buddy. It couldn't have been more of a perfect scenario. Expect it was Cold AF and they gave us these onesees to wear but it would have warmer for us to wear our own jackets. Anyway regardless, the tour provider gave us an amazing experience. We had some delicious soup and tea to warm us, and we loved the experience of interacting with the reindeer with the sled and also the information they provided us about the Sami people. I felt as if they really welcomed us in this less than welcoming environment. Thank you for such a memorable experience!!!

Reindeer sledding evening trip in Tromsø

  • 5 / 5

The whole activity was awesome. Once arrived at the spot we equipped ourselves with warm clothes and then did a reindeer sledding trip in the night. The reindeers were beautiful and we saw amazing northern lights. It was really a magical moment. Then we had a very good, interesting and cozy moment with our guide, a traditional Sami where we discussed about his culture. It was really good.
