Activity description

Discover the magical Nordic wilderness by snowshoe, and visit the amazing Ice Domes in Tromsø while getting up close with the majestic and festive reindeers! Welcoming adventurers of ages 7 and above.

Combine an all inclusive package, for a fulsome day in the winter wonderland of Northern Norway, situated north of the Arctic Circle. Set among the high mountains, and a snow-covered valley, the Ice Domes are home to some incredible ice sculptures and impressive snow carvings. Treat yourself to a unique guided tour in this historic hotel during your stay in Tromsø!

Your adventure begins with a pick-up from the city center in Tromsø, where you will embark on a 90-minute scenic ride, admiring the mesmerising landscapes and white-washed mountains of the Arctic. Upon arrival, you will receive warm winter clothing, the snowshoes, and a safety briefing. Once you're well equipped, you will set off to your snowshoe adventure, hiking through the snowy covered trails in the Norwegian wilderness. For the daring ones, you may follow the deeper snowy paths and challenge yourself to a more demanding trekking adventure.

Along the way, your guide will teach you some Arctic wilderness survival strategies and skills, which are essential in the Arctic Circle. You will learn how to set up a camp and sleep outdoors, what to eat, how to spot animal tracks, and how to find your way home. You will then make a stop and light up a campfire to enjoy a delicious and homemade meal while you take in the stillness of the overall scenery, set far away from the city. If the weather does not allow it, you will prepare the meal in a heated lavvu instead.

Once you've recharged, you will head to the Ice Domes, for a fascinating tour of the magical icy rooms. The hotel is entirely rebuilt each year out of ice, portraying some of the most typical Northern Norwegian and Arctic themes, including the Northern Lights, the Sami culture, and the wonderful Arctic animals.

Immerse yourself in the Arctic history, while taking in the fantastic coloured lighting in this unique setting. Learn some insights about the construction process of the domes, and the impact of the snow in the Arctic and enjoy a non-alcoholic ice shot at the impressive ice bar!

You will have some free time to explore the Ice Domes and meet the reindeers, right next to the Ice Hotel, before heading back to Tromsø.

Book your Ice Domes Visit, and combine your day with a snowshoeing excursion, and meet the festive reindeers, important to the Arctic region and Tromsø!

We were welcomed by our very friendly tourguide when we arrived at the ice domes. With a small group (7) we started our wilderness snow shoes skills hike. All of the equipment and the thermo overalls were given to us right before we stared our hike. Our tourguide told us a lot about the wildlife and nature while we walked trough the snow and the beautiful landscape. We were greeted by some super cute and happy huskies who were part of the husky sledding group. During our walk we stopped to sit by a fire and enjoyed some hot chocolate and (vegetarian) sausages. After our hike we visited the ice domes and ended the tour with a shot of wodka with our tourguide.
