Activity description

This amazing boat trip will take you all the way up north to the former mining town Ny-Ålesund, commonly known as the gateway to the Arctic. Many famous adventurers started their expeditions from here, for example, Roald Amundsen, who was the first person to explore the North and the South Pole. Today, it is home to a small community of just under 40 people, many of whom are seasonal researchers at the town's international research institutions.

You will be picked up from your hotel for this day trip and brought to the harbor where we will start our adventure. After the safety instruction, it's time to board the boat and head out to Isfjorden and sail up north.

During the journey through Forlandssundet, you will pass Poolepynten which is the home of a local walrus colony during the summer months. If the weather conditions are good, you will have a short stop here in order to take a closer look at these funny two-tonne mammals.

After another 3-4 hours gliding through the Arctic sea, you will get to Kongsfjorden, where you will get the chance to see the "Tre Kroner" if the weather allows it. These are three rocks known as Nunataks that stick out of the great Kongbreen glacier. Once we arrive at Ny-Ålesund, you will go ashore and discover the town and its history. This guided tour will take you around the town's many charms, from the mast where adventurer Roald Amundsen attached his Airship before heading to the North Pole, to the northernmost shop in the world. You will also visit the northernmost post office, where you can stamp your passport and send postcards to friends and family closer to the equator. At the end of our tour, you will find a nice spot on the island to enjoy your lunch.

Whether you're an adventurer on a mission to reach the furthest parts of the world, an amateur scientist with a fascination for ongoing climate, marine biology, or Arctic research, or a simple romantic with a curiosity for remote communities in breathtaking nature, this is the trip for you!

It was a great tour. Amazing nature and we saw a lot of wildlife! Walruses, whales, birds, arctic foxes. It was very nice to see the town of Ny-Alesund. Our guide told us about the town. We had a great day, but it was very long. We left at 8.00 in the morning and we were back in the harbour at 21.00 in the evening. Most of the day we have spend on the boat.

The town was beautiful! It was shame that we didn’t see the polar bears (we were told there were four around on the day we arrived) but it was probably safer for them not being seen by human.
