Activity description

Conquer the rapids of the infamous Soča River on whitewater rafting excursions in the Soča Valley, Slovenia.

Voted the BEST whitewater trip in Slovenia, the emerald waters on the banks of the Soča might look good enough to swim in - but travel further downriver and you'll realize why this deceptive natural beauty is also home to some of Europe's most challenging rapids. Test your teamwork on this adventure rafting excursion down the raging tributaries in Slovenia's Triglav National Park.

Location
The namesake river that connects Slovenia to its Italian cousin, the Soča Valley is accredited as a European Destination of Excellence (EDEN) due to its sustainable development and stunning scenery. The river source is in the village of Bovec, situated in the Trenta Valley and Triglav National Park - named after Mt. Triglav, the highest peak in Slovenia. Nearby,  Boka Waterfall (144m) has the most abundant flow of water in Slovenia that flows into the rapids and channels of the main river source.

Activity
Meet your guide in Bovec for a half-day rafting excursion in the Soča Valley. After a short safety briefing, you will kit up and head to the banks of the Soča River by transfer coach (10 minutes). Once you have embarked, you'll start on a few small rapids where you can practice your paddling technique - working as a team to dodge large obstacles and balance the boat down fast-moving water. Starting as class II (rough water, maybe some rocks, small drops) the river will pick up speed and become more difficult as the excursion continues down a tighter channel, moving into a final class IV waters (whitewater, large waves, continuous rapids, large rocks). Be prepared to get wet - but don't forget to enjoy yourself! This excursion might be challenging but it's equally rewarding - with no previous experience required, although an adventurous spirit is recommended.

Conditions
A class III-IV river, during the spring ample rain coupled with alpine snowmelt, guarantees high water levels with strong currents and big waves which make rafting at this time very exciting. In summer the water level decreases, resulting in a slower, calmer course ideal for families. The Soča is open to tourists from March until October each year.

We did the rafting as a family of five, it was engaging and friendly. The guide, Heidar (I probably misspell the name) was professional and funny. The only complaint is having to carry the heavy raft in the end, hope you have good neck muscles. But the activity itself was awesome
