Discover the exciting torrents and stunning landscapes of the Swiss Grand Canyon on rafting excursions down the epic Vorderrhein waterway.

Rafting on the Vorderrhein is a family-friendly excursion with new adventures hidden around each turn. Combining the best aspects of the Swiss alpine region, this graded river is a dramatic landscape of energetic river torrents and lazy gorges that impact the landscape in breathtaking ways. A grade two river for adventurous beginners, expect to get wet as this half day/full day rafting excursions is packed with fun - suitable for big kids of any age!

Location
The Vorderrhein aka the Swiss Grand Canyon is a 20-kilometre river section between Ilanz and Reichenau. A grade two river with exciting whitewater rapids as well as an extraordinarily beautiful landscape with vertical cliffs, deep chasms and steep scree slopes, this section of the Rhine is located predominantly in the canton of Graubünden.

Activity
Operating as a half day (3.5 hours - 20km) or full day (5 hours - 20km) rafting excursion on the Vorderrhein, guests will start their whitewater experience in Ilanz where you will meet your instructor at the train station and receive a short safety briefing along with a few basic paddling techniques. The rafting trip will lead you through the impressive Rhine Gorge renowned for its steep chalk walls and high rock towers looming on both sides of the river. Rafting groups will also have the chance to navigate small grade two rapids that are suitable for adventurous beginners (BBQ lunch organised for full day guests). The trip ends in Reichenau, just above the confluence of the Vorder- and the Hinterrhein. Your dry clothes and a complimentary drink will be waiting for you at the end of the excursion.

Conditions
The Vorderrhein is a grade two class river. This means straightforward rapids with wide, clear channels which are evident without scouting. Occasional maneuvering may be required, but rocks and medium-sized waves are easily avoided by trained paddlers. Swimmers are seldom injured and group assistance, while helpful, is seldom needed.
