Activity description

Explore the smuggler's coves and craggy coastline of Newquay and beyond on this beginner's SUP lesson in Cornwall.

One of the most popular water sports to hit UK shores, stand up paddling (SUP) is an easy and accessible way to discover the hidden inlets and idyllic bays of the southern peninsula. Meet the region's thriving marine population and discover the lesser known secrets this shoreline has to offer on this two hour SUP lesson from Towan Beach. Work on your balance and paddling technique - choosing to focus on either touring SUP or the more adventurous SUP surfing!

Location
Operating from Towan Bay - rated as one of the best beaches in Cornwall, Newquay is renowned for its tidal caves, coves and hidden beaches once used for smugglers and pirates. Exposed during low tide, the cliffs and rocky coastline is also a haven for marine mammals like seals and dolphins. Only an hour flight from central London to the area's domestic airport, sandy Fistral and Watergate Bay are certified as Blue Flag - ensuring clean water and beaches.

Activity
Choose between a few different options:
- SUP Lesson and Tour
- Snorkel and SUP Adventure
- Family Private SUP Lesson

Conditions
The coastline around Towan Beach and Fistral beach is a hotspot for biodiversity. One side is exposed to the powerful Atlantic swells and the other sheltered with deep smugglers caves. Water visibility is good, offering clear views of the seafloor below. SUP lessons are organised according to the tide - with the most favourable season running from May until September when sea temperatures reach 17°C.
