Que hacer en Salento

“Salento: lu sule, lu mare e lu ientu”. This is a famous motto in the local dialect which literally means:  “Salento: the sun, the sea and the wind”, the three greatest amenities of the region!

Salento is a peninsula in the southern part of Puglia, and it’s the famous heel of Italy’s boot. Salento is the land of the two seas which brings two different winds: the Ionian sea with winds from north and the Adriatic sea, that brings the Scirocco. The shore varies from white fine sandy beaches to impervious white limestone reefs, each touched by crystal blue marine waters, many of which are classed as Blue Flags.

The biggest towns in the region are Lecce, Gallipoli, Otranto, Porto Cesareo, Porto Selvaggio, Torre San Giovanni and they all offer a wide choice of beaches, night life, and various sports activities.

Salento is a must do pilgrimage at least once in a life time: many different spots provide ideal conditions to practice kitesurfing and windsurfing. Flat and low waters, constant medium/strong winds and large sandy beaches! The main spots are: on the Adriatic coast (Frassanito and San Foca), and on the Ionian coast (Gallipoli, Porto Cesareo, Torre Mozza and Torre San Giovanni).

The subaquatic world and its protected areas can be explored by freediving and scuba diving! A large range of water sports can be practiced here: SUP, jet ski excursions, canoeing, snorkelling and flyboarding.

Why not explore the countryside which has luxuriant green Mediterranean vegetation by via trekking or mountain biking. As an alternative you can experience skydiving end enjoy an aerial vantage point over the region!
