Work on your barrel skills with indoor surfing lessons in Bedford.
Forget the road trip and practise your surfing skills from the safety and convenience of the UK's best wave machine! Whilst road trips to the coast are half the fun, why not skip the expensive board rental and sand in places you'd rather not mention and build up you technical whitewater riding with specialised lessons that don't depend on tides - or the great British weather...
Location
This indoor leisure centre is situated in the town of Bedford - a two-hour drive from central London. On the banks of the Great Ouse River, Bedford is close to Cambridge, Milton Keynes and Northampton. Boscombe Beach in Bournemouth is the nearest break (3h drive). Easily accessible by train (44 mins) from London, it is also served by Luton airport - making it a convenient commuter town.
Activity
Meet your instructor at the indoor leisure centre for an indoor surfing lesson. A one hour lesson on the infamous FlowRider artificial surf machine, it simulates real waves in a contained environment - pumping a 10m-wide perpetual sheet wave! Mixing elements of snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding, the water is only a few inches deep and simply travels over the taught rubber membrane surface that acts as a cushion for any falls. Working with your instructor, learn how to balance on the board and control the whitewater - ideal for anyone looking to take their surfing experience to the next level. On public sessions, you will be joining a group where you take it in turns to ride. Wetsuits, boards and expert instruction are all included.
Conditions
Unlike traditional surfing lessons, Flowriding doesn't need you to perfect your standing series to ride. Creating a strong current with a steady whitewater wave, you will use a smaller hybrid board - using the pressure to push away from the power source.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
All participants must be a minimum of 107cm tall for bodyboarding and a minimum of 132cm to attempt stand up riding.
