About the activity
Enter the laurel forest of La Palma through the Cubo de La Galga trail and be amazed by the views of the La Galga canyon!
If you are passionate about nature, hiking and mountains, you can not miss the opportunity to get into the laurel forests of La Palma, one of the wildest islands of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. This island of the Canary Islands has been named a Biosphere Reserve, as it is the largest emerged volcanic crater in the world.
Hand in hand with the team of La Palma Natural you will go through the trails of Cubo de la Galga leaving behind the beach to penetrate one of the lungs of La Palma, also known as the Green Island. During the route you will be accompanied by a guide who will explain the vegetation and fauna of the island.
The excursion will take you to the viewpoint of Somada Alta at 850 meters altitude and from where you will enjoy the breathtaking views of the ravine of La Galga, of particular beauty because it is completely covered by large ferns and laurel forests, unique to the Canary Islands, the Azores and Madeira. From the viewpoint you can also see the town of San Andrés, the second most important town of the island after Santa Cruz de La Palma. This village is considered one of the most beautiful on the island, as it preserves the centuries-old houses of the old sugar merchants and is currently home to the only rum distillery on La Palma. Afterwards, you will follow the trail through a forest of fayal-brezal, a plant formation typical of the Canary Islands, until you reach the meeting point. In total, this is a circular route of 11km with a difference in altitude of 450m.
An excursion not to be missed if you want to get to know the vegetation of La Palma!
