About the activity

Explore the splendid sights of the Diamond Circle in Northern Iceland on this day-long loop around waterfalls, lakes, mud pits and Icelandic villages!

The South has the Golden Circle, the West has the Silver Circle, and Northern Iceland has the Diamond Circle: a route taking you through the North's most spectacular scenery, both natural and human. Make sure you pack a lunch because the long list of sights you will see will most definitely leave you in need of a good snack. Hop in our 4*4 and enjoy this day-long trip to terrific glacial canyons, tremendous waterfalls, titanic lakes and tiny villages!

Departing from Akureyri, our first stop is by Waterfall Goðafoss. From there, it's a quick drive to Lake Mývatn. We will stop to take in not only the views over this large body of water but also to see the sights around the area. One of these is Hverir, a park of boiling mud pits by Mount Námafjall. This spot is often considered one of the most beautiful places in the country. Once we have taken it in, we will make a short stop in Víti crater near Krafla Volcano.
The next big stop after leaving the Mývatn area is Waterfall Dettifoss. This impressively large waterfall is situated in one of Iceland's biggest canyons: gaze in awe as incredible volumes of water, mud, and sad thunder over the edge.

After Dettifoss we travel alongside the Jökulsárgljúfur glacial canyon to Vesturdalur valley and to Hljóðaklettar, the echoing cliffs. They are world known for their basalt columns that characterize the ancient crater remains.

Next, we come down to the imposing horseshoe-shaped canyon Ásbyrgi, surrounded by precipitous cliffs. This place is known to be the meeting place of the pagan Gods.

After witnessing this array of mind-boggling natural wonders, we will take time to recharge and relax in a café. We will also have a wander through the scenic Húsavík village before heading back to Akureyri at the end of the day.

This activity is organised as a small group tour of maximum 16 people.
