Winter Vienna Woods Hike & Wine-tasting

Course of events

9:40 am - Meet & Greet
You will meet your guide at the main entrance of Wien Mitte train station for initial introductions before boarding our train. Head to the U-Bahn station ‘Landstraße’ on the U3 orange or the U4 green lines – see the map below for full details of how to get there.

Train ride to the Thermal Region
With a welcome glass of sekt (sparkling wine) in your hand and the ideal setting within the grounds of Austria’s second oldest wine-making institution, you will discover how monks became wine pioneers of their time, spreading their expertise across Europe and forming new wine regions as they went.

Short vineyard walk between villages
You will walk for around 20 minutes through the pretty vineyard landscape, as you head to arguably one of Austria’s most historic wine-making villages.

Traditional Austrian lunch in Gumpoldskirchen
You will go for lunch at a local ‘Heurige’ or wine tavern (lunch not included).

Wine tasting and Q&A with local vintner
After lunch, with full stomachs and endorphins surging through our bodies, the highlight of the day is a wonderfully intimate wine tasting with one of the region’s finest vintners.

5 pm - Arrival back to Vienna by train
The tour ends with a short train ride back to the city centre. You will arrive at your hotel in time to freshen up before dinner, the opera, the theatre, or the concert! Whatever you choose, it is guaranteed that you will sleep well that night!

Activity requirements

The winter hike is accessible for most people with moderate fitness levels. However, the tour is not suitable for people with mobility issues or those with serious medical conditions.
