Stargazing on the Teide National Park, Tenerife

If you are interested in the Universe and would like to know which constellations, stars and planets we see when the sun goes down, you can't miss the opportunity to stargaze from the Teide National Park in Tenerife. At an average altitude of 2,000 metres and within the National Park, where there is hardly any light pollution, it is one of the best places for stargazing, and you can see more than 4,000 stars with the naked eye!

The Mirador de La Ruleta viewpoint, also known as the Mirador de La Catedral, is located in the Teide National Park and is famous for being presided over by a 120-metre-high rock that towers over the Ucanca Valley. From here you can see some of the most interesting points in the National Park, such as the Pico Viejo lava flows, the Roques de García and the Ucanca sediments. The Mirador de la Ruleta is the meeting point chosen by the AsterArk guides, certified by the Starlight® Foundation and the Teide National Park.

You will meet them a little before sunset, where they will welcome you and give you a short introduction to what can be seen in the night sky of Tenerife as well as the astronomical facilities found in the Teide Park. Your guide will then explain scientific facts and all the mythology about the constellations visible that night, while pointing them out to you with a laser pointer. You will also learn how to identify the North Star. But that's not all, the second part of the session consists of an observation through a computerised telescope with diameters between 235 and 250 mm. Through the telescope, you will be able to see: nebulae, double stars, galaxies, star clusters, the Moon and planets of our Solar System.
