Try scuba diving for the first time in the beautiful Bay of Patmos in Greece with a certified instructor. Welcoming adventurers from ages 8 and up!
Patmos is a small island located in the eastern Aegean Sea, as part of the Dodecanese group of islands in Greece. Patmos is known for its UNESCO World Heritage Site, picturesque landscapes, charming villages, and beautiful beaches.
The SSI Try Scuba program is your introduction to scuba diving. This entry-level program allows you to experience scuba diving in a confined water setting. To start, you’ll meet the certified instructor at the dive centre in Patmos. This session is open to beginners, no previous experience is needed! The instructor will provide the scuba diving gear (wetsuit, fins, mask, tanks, life jacket, regulator and weights). They will go through a safety briefing and teach you about the basic theory of scuba diving, the gear and the equipment checks.
Then, you will travel to the Bay of Patmos, a protected shallow bay on the island with easy water access. Under the instructor’s guidance, you will practice some basic skills at a standing depth of water and learn how to breathe with the equipment. Once you’re comfortable, it’s time for your first dive! You will dive beneath the surface (maximum depth of 5m / 16ft) and experience a whole new world. Explore the underwater landscapes, discovering local flora, fauna, and colourful marine life.
At the end of the dive, you’ll return to the shore for a debriefing session. You’ll discuss the experience and what you encountered below the surface. Then, you’ll return to the dive centre in Patmos and receive your first dive certification! You will earn the SSI Try Scuba recognition rating at the end of the course.

- Arrive at the dive centre in Patmos
- Receive scuba diving equipment (wetsuit, fins, mask, tanks, life jacket, regulator and weights)
- Safety briefing and instructions
- Drive to the diving site at the Bay of Patmos (approximately 10 minutes)
- Gear up and predive checks
- Practice some basic skills at standing depth of water
- First scuba dive from the shore (maximum depth 5 metres / 16 feet)
- Explore the underwater site (approximately 20 minutes)
- Return to the shore and debrief the experience
- Return to the dive centre in Patmos
- Receive first dive certification
Activity requirements
Written parental authorisation is required for minors to participate in the activity.
Special terms
Please let the instructor know if you suffer from respiratory or cardiac problems, have had a recent surgery or are pregnant. Restrictions may apply.
Participants who wear glasses can bring their own mask adapted to their eyesight. Otherwise, you can wear contact lenses during the activity.
