Swim with ocean giants on this snorkelling excursion in Nusa Penida.
Boasting some of the best diving conditions anywhere in Indonesia, Nusa Penida is also home to an array of gentle giants – including manta rays, turtles and the enigmatic Mola Mola. Keep up with these ocean nomads on this snorkelling trip across the Nusa Penida coastline – observing deep water pelagics in their natural environment.
Location
This activity takes place on Nusa Penida Island in Indonesia. A 40-minute transfer from Bali, it is renowned for its SSI/PADI rated dive sites across SD, Ped, Sental, Buyuk, Crystal Bay, Gamat Bay, Malibu Beach & Suwehan Beach.
Activity
Meet your guide at the beach base in Nusa Penida for this half-day snorkelling excursion. A showcase of the island’s impressive abundance of marine ecosystems, this trip is suitable for families and experienced freedivers alike – allowing you to explore the ocean floor on a single breath. Travelling to four unique dive sites around the island, groups can swim with manta rays, turtles, stingrays & reef sharks – all whilst appreciating the colourful corals that range in depth and scale.
Manta Bay/ Manta Point: Snorkel/freedive with manta rays. Dive sites are condition dependant on the day as both are on the exposed site of Nusa Penida where strong currents and swell can be prevailing.
Crystal Bay: An abundance of colourful corals and reef fish make this shallow dive a must-see. For experienced Freedivers, guides offer an additional freedive through an underwater entrance to a unique bat cave.
Gamat Bay: This is a small bay less visited by divers than Crystal Bay, so there are fewer dive boats around. A rich, colourful and shallow reef, conditions are often calmer than in Crystal Bay – with fewer people, warmer water and no waves.
Toyapakeh Wall: This dive site is a beautiful coral wall near Toyapakeh village. There is always some current, so this is one of the best places on the island for drift diving. Highlights include marble stingrays, ribbon and moray eels, reef sharks, scorpionfish, nudibranch, sea snakes, turtles and seasonal Mola Mola (Sunfish).
Conditions
High season (July-September) is the best time to see Mola-Mola when the water is colder but conditions are calmer. Low season (December-February) is the best time to see Manta Rays. The water visibility stays at the same level all year, even during the rainy season.
