Embark on a spectacular hike that starts from Scala, the oldest village on the Amalfi Coast! You will get to explore the medieval alleys and charming architecture of this medieval hamlet before entering the incredible Valle delle Ferriere!
Scala is a fascinating, sleepy village that was once an important military stronghold of the Republic of Amalfi during the Middle Ages. It will truly feel like you have stepped back in time as you surround yourself in the quiet beauty of this charming village.
Passing through Scala with your expert hiking guide, you will pass by the interesting ruins of the Basilica of Sant Eustachio. It’s definitely worth a visit to stop at this 13-century church that was once one of the most beautiful churches in Southern Italy. Not long after this stop, you will enter the Valle delle Ferriere (also known as the Valley of the Mills).
Your hiking path will take you through the nature reserve of Valle delle Ferriere where you’ll get to immerse yourself in a picturesque, natural area that’s home to protected plant species and animals. You may even get to see some rare botanical species in this enchanting environment that’s surrounded by waterfalls!
As you make your way towards Amalfi by following the Canneto river, you will get to spot the once bustling paper mills that had produced Amalfi’s famous handmade paper centuries of years ago. Listening to the tranquil sounds of the valley, you’ll have a magical experience as you stand witness to the rich history of this important area.
