Discover the ocean’s most playful pelagics on this whale watching tour in Madeira!

Home to leaping dolphins, graceful sperm whales, orca and more – head to the Portuguese island of Madeira for this whale watching experience. Set off from Quinta do Lorde Marina and explore the Atlantic Ocean – spotting resident pods and migrating gentle giants that grace the surface just in time to capture an action shot!

Location
This activity is run & operated from Quinta do Lorde Marina on the island of Madeira. The tour visits a range of locations based on previous sightings and marine behaviour – with most travelling to the Garajau Marine Reserve.

Activity
Head down to the marina for this two-hour whale watching tour! Home to resident marine life and visiting pelagics, the waters off the coast of Madeira are abundant with wildlife big and small – with a 95% sighting success rate! Accompanied by an experienced skipper and nature expert, you’ll learn more about why this part of the Atlantic attracts so much life. Whatever time of year you choose to visit Madeira, there’s always something to see – in fact, the waters off the coast are renowned for Sperm whales, bottlenose dolphins, and Common dolphins that call this coastline home. Due to the area’s deep ocean trench, you can also spot some of the world’s largest species that migrate along the Portuguese coast – if you’re lucky, you might see fin whales, blue whales, and killer whales too! Our top tip: Keep your camera at the ready for your chance of catching a breach!

Conditions
Suitable for all ages and abilities, this is a no-contact boat tour in the Madeira Archipelago. Please note that wildlife sightings are common but not guaranteed. The best time to see large whales is December – March.

Speed boat tour outside Funchal. We were able to see both dolphins and whales at close distance. Specially the whales were fun as one dived under our small boat.
