Experience the spectacular landscapes of Western Norway on a scenic sightseeing train journey from Åndalsnes to Bjorli, passing by Trollveggen, Kylling Bridge and the Verma Waterfalls. Welcoming adventurers of all ages on this year-round family-friendly excursion!

Åndalsnes is a picturesque town located in the Romsdalen Valley in Norway. The town is surrounded by stunning natural beauty, nestled at the mouth of the Romsdalsfjord and flanked by majestic mountains. A train journey from Åndalsnes will take you through dramatic landscapes, deep valleys, and over impressive bridges.

The adventure begins at Åndalsnes Train Station, where you will board the Rauma Railway train. The train is steeped in rich history. During World War II, Norway undertook a secret operation to transfer its gold reserves from Oslo to Åndalsnes via this railway line as a measure to protect national assets from German occupation. The gold was camouflaged as ordinary cargo and was secretly transported along hidden routes to safer destinations, including the United Kingdom. You’ll learn more about this fascinating event in history throughout the tour.

After being greeted by the train hosts, you’ll get comfortable and prepare for the scenic journey. You’ll pass by stunning views of the deep blue Romsdalsfjord, towering peaks, and lush green landscapes. With your own smartphone and headphones, you can download a free audioguide in your preferred language, which will give you information about the sights you pass along the way. You’ll hear unique stories about those who lived amongst the mountains and fed from the river, as well as learn about the historical events of World War II.

You’ll travel past the beautiful Rauma River, part of the same route that was used in filming Tom Cruise in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One. Then, you’ll witness the iconic Trollveggen (Troll Wall), Europe's tallest vertical rock face. Trollveggen holds cultural significance in Norwegian folklore and mythology. You’ll hear local legends about the wall and admire the mesmerising views of the surrounding mountains.

Next, you’ll pass by Kors Church, Norway's ‘wandering church’. With an interesting history dating back to 1498, this church has been moved several times. You’ll also pass by the breathtaking Verma Waterfall, plummeting 360 metres down from the top of the mountain edge. The last remarkable landmark you’ll pass by is Kylling Bridge, one of Norway’s finest engineering pieces and most famous railway bridge. It offers picturesque views of the surrounding mountains, valleys, and the rushing waters of the Rauma River below. The bridge was also used in the filming of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, and is a must-see site in the area!

You’ll arrive at Bjorli, a small fishing village best known for its ski resort. Bjorli is also surrounded by breathtaking scenery. You’ll have a short stop here, where you can disembark the train and take in the natural beauty up close. After the break, you’ll hop back on the train and enjoy the awe-inspiring views on the way back to the train station in Åndalsnes.
