Activity description

Explore the stunning Hardanger region in the Wintertime on this day-long snowshoe hike, which is sure to be a feast for the eyes as well as your calf muscles!

While the Hardangervidda is more commonly explored in the summertime, its attractions remain just as beautiful in the wintertime. On this snowshoe excursion, you will be able to discover its beautiful natural landmarks first-hand, from glistening white trees to frozen lakes and waterfalls. Leave a snowshoe trail along the immense valleys of untouched snow, and enjoy this rare escape into the tranquility of nature, filling your lungs with that famous fresh Norwegian air.

On this excursion, we will teach you the skills required to snowshoe. This equipment is essential in the deep snow of Hardanger and on icy surfaces as well. With the snowshoes and poles we provide for you, it will suddenly be possible to discover much more terrain.

There are several routes possible for this day-long excursion, and this will be decided closer to the time, based on snow conditions and personal preferences. Some starting points include Lofthus, Odda, Røldal, Seljestad, and Buerdalen. The guide will contact you closer to the date of the activity in order to plan the exact itinerary. They can also provide lunch for you upon request.

Course of events

Upon reservation, the guide will contact you to plan the starting point, and enquire upon potential lunch. The hike is between 5 and 7 hours long, but the duration and distance can be changed depending on your preferences.

Please let your guide know if you have any medical conditions that might impact the tour in case of emergency.

After putting in the equipment and getting some instructions, you start the tour at the bottom of a long snowy road winding up the side of the mountain, with an increasingly great view on the lakes; for us, one was frozen and the other ice-free, which made for a great contrast. At the end of the first part, you make a break in a cozy little cabin, where you can warm up and rest, before you start th On the return, you don't have to walk down the road again, instead you can use some sleds to slide down the whole way - both fun and less tedious!
