Activity description

Join this exciting boat cruise from Tromsø to witness the magnificent summer sunset, midnight sun phenomenon, and some Arctic wildlife! All ages are welcome aboard this family-friendly excursion.

Tromsø is a popular city located in the north of Norway, nestled in the heart of the Arctic. The city is located along the coast of the Norwegian Sea, which is known for its rich marine life and crucial role in the Norwegian fishing industry. During the spring and summer months, the Tromsø skies transform into a beautiful hue of colours as the sun sets. Like most places in the north, it also experiences the midnight sun phenomenon!

To begin your trip, you will meet at the pier in Tromsø, where you will be welcomed on board the comfortable boat by the experienced guides. The hybrid-electric boat holds a maximum capacity of 100 passengers. There is a café on board, where you are free to purchase food and beverages throughout the tour. Settle yourself in the warm indoor saloons or out on the open deck, while the captain sets sail on the Norwegian Sea!

The captain will take either the southern or northern route along the Kvaløya coastline, depending on the conditions of the day. The coast is sporadically dotted with villages, idyllic boathouses and fish drying racks. You will have an amazing view from the boat of the fjords and mountains of Norway in the distance. Don’t forget your camera to capture some memorable photos!

As you sail, the guide will share insights about the history and culture of Tromsø, as well as the science behind the extended daylight. They will also keep an eye out for any wildlife that frequents the sea during this time of year, particularly the birdlife. The puffin, a small bird with colourful, triangular bills and striking black and white plumage, is often seen in the summer months. They build nests on remote islands along the Norwegian coast. The guide will share facts about these birds and any other flora or fauna that is spotted throughout the cruise.

Depending on the time of year, you will be treated to a different sight in the evening skies. In the springtime (from April to May), you will witness the sun slowly touching the sea and dipping over the horizon, creating a mesmerising display of colours. These vibrant colours cast a glow over the Arctic landscape. In the summer months (from June to August), the sunsets seamlessly transition into the midnight sun as the days get longer. This period offers a unique experience where the sun hovers at the horizon, refusing to set, creating a magical, endless day. After taking in this beautiful Arctic sky, you will return to the starting point in Tromsø.

Don’t miss this unforgettable adventure in Tromsø to experience the awe-inspiring Arctic sunsets and the mesmerising midnight sky on a luxurious boat cruise!
