Activity description
Explore the 2004 Lava Tube Flow of Piton de la Fournaise, in Réunion Island, with a mountain guide who specializes in volcanology.
Rando Volcano offers sporty excursion of 2.30 to 6 hours inside the 2004 lava tube flow in Sainte-Rose, at the east of the Piton de la Fournaise.
Semi-sporty excursion (3.5 hours underground)
- You will leave the bottom of the network near the ocean to go up about 2.5 km to an exit located at the foot of the "big slopes".
- The route traces almost the one that the first explorers of the tunnels borrowed in 2005.
- Some passages are quite low although it is not necessary to crawl, but it is still a fairly sporty route where there are numerous passages that require to walk on all fours.
- Your guide can adapt the route according to the level of the group and your needs with many narrow passages.
- You will eat underground, so remember to bring your picnic!
Sporty excursion (6 hours underground)
- You will cross the network of the "Sunday tunnel", which is quite narrow and labyrinthine.
- You will arrive at the bottom of the big slopes and you will go down in the tunnels to the lower entrances which are about 3,5 km underground.
- This excursion requires a good physical condition.
- Several routes are possible depending on the level of the group but all have many curved passages, and others that require to be walk on all fours or to crawl.
- You will eat underground so don't forget to bring your lunch!
