Activity description

Conquer South Africa’s most famous peak on this hiking trip to the summit of Table Mountain.

With views of the Mother City that stretch out for miles, Table Mountain might be the most visited landmark in Cape Town – but the National Park offers much more than just a postcard picture. Part of the Cape of Good Hope, the most southern point of the African continent, discover the area’s unique topography on this hiking tour to 1,086 m.

Location
Table Mountain is a flat top summit that overlooks Cape Town – stretch 1300 acres as part of the National Park on the Cape of Good Hope. This activity follows Platteklip Gorge to the summit – the easiest and most direct route.

Activity
Meet your guide in Cape Town for this half-day hiking excursion to the summit of Table Mountain. A scenic route that follows the Platteklip Gorge route, this is the oldest, easiest and most direct route to the summit at 1,086m and suitable for all ages and abilities. A moderate 2 to 3-hour hike, this trail travels through a deep ravine on the iconic front face of the mountain – and whilst you climb, your guide will tell you more about this famous peak and the flora and fauna endemic to the National Park. With a few rock steps and some scrambling, this route has been left unchanged since it was first ascended in 1503 – making it the mountain’s oldest and most historic route! Once you make it to the top, it’s time to mark the moment with a few photos, exploring the summit and soaking up the scenery – returning by foot on a one-hour descent.

Conditions
Platteklip Gorge involves no technical sections or exposure to heights. The gradient is steep and has lots of large steps -suitable for anyone in good shape. Whilst hiking boots and poles are not necessary, please note that the total hike time is approximately 4 hours.
