Activity description

During an exhilarating tandem paragliding flight from Signal Hill or Lion's Head, enjoy amazing views over Cape Town, its beaches and winelands as well as the iconic Table Mountain.

What a unique way to discover one of South Africa's biggest cities! No other adventure activity would let you enjoy spectacular panoramas of Table Mountain and City Bowl with no windows to block the view. And more than that, you'll take home sensational and unforgettable memories of your trip to Cape Town!

You'll be taking off on Signal Hill (at the end of Signal Hill Road), one of Cape Town's landmarks. Where you'll be welcomed by the Parapax Staff.

No matter how nervous you might feel before takeoff (or for some, even the very thought of paragliding), the experienced and internationally accredited team will put you at ease. You will be welcomed, signed up, and briefed on the launch. Once you're securely clipped in, all you need to do is take a few light steps before you're flying! With an expert pilot behind you, you will feel just great!

Tandem paragliding gives you an amazing sense of freedom. Once in the air, most people are surprised at how relaxed they feel. You'll sit comfortably upright and will gently glide through the air at around 40km/hr.

In optimal weather conditions, you even have the chance to fly the paraglider yourself! Your instructor will place his hands above yours to show you how to steer. It really is quite simple and really, really fun! This, like the aerobatics before landing, are completely optional of course!

All in all the activity lasts half an hour of which ca. 10 minutes are flight time. Paragliding is entirely dependant on weather. The pilots do their best to offer you a flight tailored to your wishes but above all, they will assure that your paragliding experience is safe. Therefore, the pilots study wind and weather websites to give accurate weather assessment. If your flight is rescheduled it's for a good reason.

Activity requirements

- Make sure to bring sensible, good, closed shoes (running shoes/trainers/sneakers/takkies). Mountain and hiking boots are even better.

- Please DO NOT wear crocs, sandals, flip flops or anything similar. If you don’t have closed shoes, just tell us and we have every sized shoe with us.

- Generally Jeans and a T-shirt with a windbreaker is the best bet.

- Bring drinking water, a hat and sunscreen with you.

- No previous paragliding experience.

- No certain fitness level required.

Special terms

- Maximum weight is 135kg (300lbs).

- Spectators can wait on the take-off ground for the guests to return.

- It’s essential to allow some leeway when booking your flight. Make sure you book right at the beginning of your stay. The Cape often has "tricky" weather and folks always regret it when they try to book on the last day of their visit and there happens to be a strong SE wind blowing. The most advisable thing is to do your paragliding flight on your first day in Cape Town and be flexible with your time. The whole experience can take as little as 1 hour (and you can be in the air for 30 mins of that if the weather allows it!).

- Although Parapax plots fly 365 days a year, from sunrise to sunset it’s always weather dependant and they only fly when it’s safe. Sunset tandem flights are their specialty, but optimal flying is generally between 9 am and 2 pm. Sunset flights are scheduled from 5 pm to 7 pm in both summer and winter.

- Photos and videos of your flight are not included. For ZAR300 you can buy the HD photos and videos (available to purchase in cash on arrival).

Lots of fun. Friendly instructors. You feel very safe and calm. I was suprised by how calming it was to be in mid air. It was less of a shocking thrill and more like what it might feel like to be a bird sitting on its couch on its day off.

There was absolutely nothing about this that was at all scared. It was as simple as taking a stroll along the beach. At the same time exhilarating as you step out off the mountain top and take flight.

Exhilarating!

The booking was easy and good. The flight was wonderful. Because the weather condition the flight was twice canceled. The provider gave early the information about the cancelation. One thing was not o.k... In the offer for the flight stand flight for 30 minutes. Real were it only about 5 minutes.
