Activity description

The amazing 4x4 tour offers you a real off-road experience, visits to historical sites and Cretan villages, a taste of the island's traditional cuisine and of course, breathtaking panoramic views. Take a look at the large dam of Aposelemi with beautiful hills to both sides and the abandoned village of Sfendili, which might be visible depending on water levels. You will continue on the provincial road, among olive groves and diverse territory, to the picturesque village of Amariano, where you can have a drink and see the remains of the Roman aqueduct.

This is where your exciting off-road driving begins with wilder landscapes and windier roads. When reaching a higher altitude, you will simply be astonished by the incredible panoramic views of idyllic nature. If you are lucky, you will see the imposing vultures flying! Just as impressive is the fertile plateau of Lassithi where you can admire the surrounding hills and blue lakes. There were once more than 1000 windmills, which pumped groundwater to irrigate the fields.

During your excursion, you will even get to visit a special archaeological site - the Cave of Psychro (Dikteon Cave) at an altitude of 1025m. According to myths, this stunning cave on the mountaintops is the birthplace of Zeus, the king of the Gods. In order to visit the cave, you can take a beautiful uphill path or ride a donkey (against a fee). Right after your visit to the cave, you will have the opportunity to taste the traditional Cretan cuisine in a local restaurant. After this degustation, you will go through the col, where the windmills that the locals used to grind their flour, are still standing.

On your way back you will stop by the monastery of Kera, one of the most important religious monuments in Crete, as well as the village of Mohos, for a drink of Greek raki. The view from the road to the Cretan Sea, Mallia and Hersonissos, is the best end you can imagine of your 4x4 day tour!
