Discover the magic and beauty of winter sculpted in snow and ice in the heart of Johnston Canyon on a guided ice hike! Johnston Canyon is a must-see natural attraction not to be missed during your stay in Banff National Park, not far from Calgary in Alberta.
During this ice walk from Banff, you'll be accompanied by a professional guide who will introduce you to Johnston Canyon on a 5 km (3 miles) round-trip trail. You'll learn how the canyon was formed and discover its most beautiful locations. Walking along the canyon floor and over suspended walkways, you'll also be able to spot fossil corals in the rocks and photograph the incredible ice pillars.
Your professional guide will take you past frozen waterfalls and through a short tunnel for a close-up view of the lower falls! The grand finale of your ice hike in Johnston Canyon will be the incredible "Ice Cathedral" of the Upper Falls. It's the perfect spot for a hot chocolate break and a chance to see ice climbers in action!
