About the activity

Discover the stunning and wild landscapes of southern Crete as you follow an expert instructor along a fun 15-kilometer course on this amazing sea kayaking excursion from Palaiochora to Sougia! Palaiochora, or Paleochora, is a fishing village turned resort town in southwestern Crete. As for Sougia, it is a small, almost untouched region with little over 100 inhabitants and gorgeous beaches, mountains, and even ancient ruins.

On the day of your sea kayaking excursion in Paleochora Beach, you'll need to arrive at a meeting point that will be confirmed by your instructor before the activity starts, in or near Paleochora Beach. Your instructor will give you a short introduction to paddling a sit-on-top sea kayak, and then you'll jump straight into the adventure.

On this sea kayaking excursion from Palaiochora to Sougia, you'll explore around 15 kilometers of Crete's rugged, southern coast and, along the way, you'll find a few tiny coves, impressive rocky cliffs, rugged hills dropping into the sea, and caves of all shapes that stand over the sea. After turning around the big cape, you will be greeted by the remote beach in Lissos, where we can have a break and visit the ruins of the ancient temple. You will also dive into the water and enjoy the element from an even closer perspective. You will have masks and snorkels in the kayak so we can swim wherever it takes your fancy.

Despite the strong wind that day, we managed to set off on an exploratory trip westwards from Krios beach. On the way we hid in a peaceful lagoon to wait out the wind and some snorkeling, and were lucky enough to see a cuttlefish in its hypnotizing dance! The instructors were very engaging, made sure that everyone in the group is comfortable with the level of activity (it was very windy at some point!) and gave tips on improving kayaking technique. All in all, it was beautiful and positively tiring to spent the day on the water.
