About the activity

If you want to experience an authentic and relaxing experience in the stunning landscapes of Finnish Lapland, this ice fishing excursion by snowmobile-pulled slege ride from Inari to the Muotkatunturi Wilderness Reserve is the perfect opportunity for you! Located between Inari and Karijasjoki, the Muotkatunturi is a 1570 square kilometre area with no clearly marked paths, far from any big city and their light pollution. With its untouched landscapes, this place is perfect for experiencing the unique Arctic silence and for trying diverse winter activities.

On the day of your ice fishing excursion from Inari, you'll need to arrive at the meeting point in the Muotkan Ruoktu cottages to meet your expert Munay Experience instructor. Your instructor will welcome you to the area, tell you exactly how the activity will work, and list a few safety recommendations to keep in mind throughout the night. Then, it's time to gear up with the thermal suit, snow boots, and gloves. Once you're ready, it's time to go!

Your expert instructor will drive a quiet, modern snowmobile and pull the sledge behind them. They'll take you deep into the Muotkatunturi Wilderness Reserve and toward the frozen lake they've chosen for the day. There, you'll receive your ice auger, fishing rod, line, and lure, and your expert instructor will teach you exactly how to drill a hole in the ice, so you can cast your line! You'll sit on reindeer hides to keep you from the frozen ground and patiently wait for the fish to bite. If and when you catch a fish, you'll set it aside until it's time to go back to the original meeting point, where you'll be able to cook it over the fire in Muotkan Ruoktu's Nordic cocoon. You might even get to observe the Northern Lights as you return to the camp, a true Actic experience.

Keep in mind that the temperature in the Arctic can vary between 5 and -30 degrees Celsius (41 to -22 Fahrenheit), which means that even with the winter suit you'll borrow from your instructor, you'll need to be ready for the cold. You should bring thermal or wool underlayers, wool or fleece middle layers, and a windproof and waterproof jacket to wear under the suit if necessary. You should also prepare with a hat, a scarf, gloves, and anything else you might need (medication, snacks, etc.) to spend an amazing 2 hours on this ice fishing snowmobile-pulled sledge from Inari to the Muotkatunturi Wilderness Reserve.

Learn a true Sámi tradition and experience a couple of hours of pure tranquillity in the remote landscapes of Finnish Lapland. Book your ice fishing excursion by slege from Inari to the Muotkatunturi Wilderness Reserve today!
