Ease into snowkiting in Alpe d’Huez with a 2–3h session to discover kite control and first glides.

Course of events

You meet your instructor about 15 minutes before the start at TPH1 l’Alpette (2050 m), or another location shared the day before depending on wind direction.
A short walk or transfer leads to the day’s spot, usually Col du Lac Blanc – a wide, open plateau perfect for learning.
The instructor fits you with a harness, helmet and a kite suited to your weight and the current wind (all kite gear is provided).
A 15–20 minute theoretical briefing covers safety, environment, wind window and basic handling instructions.
You begin with ground-based kite control exercises: traction awareness, gust management, and emergency system testing.
If conditions and ability allow, you try your first snow-gliding attempts, with or without a snowboard.
The session lasts 2 to 3 hours in total. It ends with kite pack-up, a return to the meeting point and a short debrief to reflect on the experience.

Being in good physical condition is required to take part in this activity.

A minimum level of red slope snowboarding is required to take part in this activity.

The minimum weight for this activity is: 40 kg.

All minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Practical information

Build your snowkiting skills in Alpe d’Huez over 3 half-days, master terrain use and grow your autonomy.

Course of events

Each morning, you meet your instructor at a spot chosen for the day’s conditions: Col du Lac Blanc, Plan des Cavalles or Col du Lautaret.
After warming up, you review the core skills: kite control, safety, and full setup including unfolding, anchoring and pre-flight checks.
You move into active snow practice: controlled traction, extended gliding, and adapting to wind shifts.
You learn to use slopes to climb back uphill and return to your starting point unaided.
Your instructor helps you build autonomy: solo gear handling, reading terrain, and responding to tricky situations.
Each daily session lasts around 2 to 3 hours, adapted to conditions and stamina.
At the end of each session, you pack down the equipment, reflect on your progress and prepare for the next day.
Depending on your level, you’ll enjoy stunning views over the Pic Blanc, Pic Bayle, the Rissiou massif and Belledonne range.

Course of events

You meet your instructor each day at a different location, based on your progress and the day’s weather.
You begin by setting up and flying your kite solo under supervision, ensuring safety skills are well mastered.
Each session lasts 2 to 3 hours and changes daily to expose you to different wind, snow and terrain types.
You explore the Alpe d’Huez area by snowkite with growing independence: riding across plateaus, avoiding natural obstacles and choosing your route.
One or more mini-expeditions are included depending on your level, with full safety equipment provided (avalanche beacon, shovel, probe).
You learn to run an entire snowkite session on your own: preparation, risk assessment, solo navigation and emergency procedures.
At the end of the day, you return to the starting point, pack gear together and review technical skills one-on-one.
By the end of the course, you're confident and autonomous, ready to snowkite safely in diverse mountain conditions.

About the activity

Experience the freedom of snowkiting in Alpe d’Huez, where the mountain becomes a limitless playground. Combining snowboarding and a traction kite, snowkiting takes you far from ski lifts and crowds, across open alpine plateaus in the Grandes Rousses range. Guided by a passionate instructor, you'll learn to control your kite, read the wind, and glide effortlessly across the snow, driven by nature's power.

Whether you're a complete beginner or ready to gain full independence, three course formats are available: a 2–3 hour introductory session, a 3-day progression course, or a 5-day advanced course for full autonomy and terrain exploration. Sessions are adapted to weather and wind conditions, and run in very small groups (max 2 participants) to ensure safety and quality instruction.

The experience begins with a theoretical safety briefing and wind orientation. You'll then set up your kite, practise on flat ground, and take your first steps being pulled on snow. As you progress, you’ll learn to use the terrain, climb slopes, and expand your riding zone while managing your gear independently.

Snowkiting in Alpe d’Huez takes place on stunning natural sites such as Col du Lac Blanc, Plan des Cavalles, or Col du Lautaret. Depending on your level and the day’s conditions, you may enjoy panoramic views of the Pic Blanc, Pic Bayle, or the Belledonne range. All kite gear is included, along with a helmet and safety equipment for advanced stages. You'll simply need to rent a snowboard locally and bring warm technical clothing.
