Scale the rock faces carved out by the Dranse d’Abondance river on a via corda session at the Gorges des Tines in Saint-Jean-d’Aulps. Halfway between a via ferrata and underground exploration, this open-air vertical route plunges you into the heart of a wild canyon featuring a succession of giant potholes, sculpted rock formations and exceptional scenery. The Gorges des Tines, carved out of limestone by the torrential erosion of the Savoyard Chablais region, offer a preserved natural setting that remains pleasantly cool during the summer months. This unique outing allows you to experience a genuine mountain adventure just a few minutes from Morzine.
You will be moving entirely on ropes, using two lanyards and a safety line, without the steel cables found on traditional courses. After a warm welcome and a technical briefing on safety rules, you’ll set off up the canyon walls. The route takes you across several vertical sections high above the water and features thrilling abseils. The highlight of the course is undoubtedly the spectacular climb up a 23-metre ‘Electron’ ladder – a flexible ladder typically used in caving. The activity is supervised by a state-certified instructor, ensuring your group receives attentive guidance.
Suitable for those aged 12 and over, this via corda in the Gorges des Tines is aimed at anyone in good physical condition who is capable of navigating an adventure course independently. All the necessary technical equipment is provided, including an approved helmet, a harness and safety lanyards. Although there are no narrow underground passages, this route requires good physical agility and a lack of severe vertigo to fully enjoy the abseils and vertical sections. Each obstacle you overcome highlights the raw beauty of the site whilst ensuring a safe environment.
