A guided caving experience in the Barrage cave lasting 2 hours and 45 minutes.
- Activity combining discovery of the underground world and rope skills (a 17-metre abseil, a few via-corda sections and other fun obstacles, all compulsory)
- See crystallised concretions (stalactites, stalagmites and draperies) and traces of cave bears (griffades and bear caves)
- Small group of no more than 8 participants
Course of events
Please allow around 4 hours for the whole experience.
- Meeting with the instructor at the entrance to the Chemin de la Garrigue off the D979, near the Saint-Nicolas de Campagnac bridge (free parking on site)
- Introduction to the instructor and the course of the activity
- Equipment
- 30-minute approach walk to the cave
- Safety briefing
- Entrance in the Barrage cave for 2 hours and 45 minutes of caving, combining the discovery of the underground world with rope techniques (a 17-metre abseil, a few via-corda sections and other fun obstacles)
- Walk back to vehicles (30 minutes), de-equipping, debriefing and end of activity
Activity requirements
Being in good physical condition is required to take part in this activity (for example, be able to hike for half a day).
Written parental authorisation is required for minors to participate in this activity.
A minimum of 3 participants is required to run this activity.

Suitable for children aged 12 and over, this caving excursion in the Barrage cave in the Gardon Gorges is ideal for families looking for a cool, fun activity near Uzès and Nîmes. For around 2 hours and 45 minutes, you will enjoy the cool environment of the cave (around 14°C) while discovering not only the underground world, but also rope techniques such as a 17-metre abseil and a few via-corda type passages. You will progress underground by the simple light of headlamps, admiring stalactites, stalagmites and delicate limestone draperies as you go, not forgetting real cave bear tracks, including griffades and bear troughs carved into the rock.
For this caving adventure in Sainte-Anastasie, you will be accompanied by a state-qualified instructor who will provide you with all the equipment you need for the activity: overall, helmet, harness, etc. All the equipment is from Petzl, a French brand renowned for safety equipment for mountain activities. So you will be caving in complete safety, and in a small group of no more than 8 participants for efficient supervision and a warm atmosphere. Your instructor will share the fascinating secrets of the Barrage cave with you throughout the experience, between narrow passages and playful obstacles, giving you a truly immersive experience of the underground world of the Gardon Gorges.
