Activity description

Experience a full or half day backcountry skiing excursion with an expert instructor in the Valmorel ski resort, southeastern France.

With an experienced guide from the school ESI ESKIMo who knows the Valmorel ski resort like the back of his hand, you will go for a half or full day off-piste excursion in groups of 5 to ensure a better experience and maximum safety!

Valmorel is located between the Vanoise National Park and the Lauziere massif in the Savoie department in the Northern Alps region.

Programme: You'll meet your instructor at the school and he will give you the safety equipment (avalanche transceiver, shovel, and probe). Then you will use the ski lift to reach the chosen itinerary depending on the level of the group and the snow conditions.

Different routes are possible, such as:

- Col du Mottet
It's a classic route that starts from Col du Mottet at the summit of the Valmorel pistes down to the Valley des Bellevilles, giving about 1,300 m of vertical. The descent is not very difficult but the fact that the return is by taxi means that you will find very few tracks from other skiers. Although the descent is located in Les Trois Vallées, it is far from the pistes of the ski resort and the villages have been left largely untouched by tourism.
From Valmorel, take the Pierrafort cabin and then the Mottet chairlift. From here, you ski down the large south-east facing bowl. After you reach the Orgentils chalets, follow the right bank of the stream of the same name to the village of Deux Nants. Turn directly south along a small road that takes you over a bridge crossing the Nant Brun. You now have to climb 300 meters before following the track down through the Longegrasse forest and on to Flachère village.

- Combe de la Rave in Lauzière
From the Lauziere chairlift follow the Colombe Rouge and then immediately descend to the left (east) into the Combe de la Rave. You reach the Madeleine piste at the bottom of the valley. Under the Tour de la Flachère at 2,050 m, you have to ski through a short open gorge.

Backcountry skiing is a great activity to do in the ski area of Valmorel because there are many forests and therefore beautiful landscapes with top security and visibility!
