Whale watching in Moorea offers a magnificent spectacle in the crystal-clear waters of the South Pacific Ocean. Every year, Tahiti's sister island becomes a privileged sanctuary for humpback whales migrating to breed and give birth in warm Polynesian waters. Departing from Tiahura on the north-western coast, this guided boat excursion brings you close to marine wildlife against the dramatic backdrop of Mount Rotui. Observing these gentle giants from the deck allows participants of all ages to witness powerful blows, tail slaps, and breaches in a safe and respectful environment without entering the open ocean.
Over the course of this 4-hour excursion, your certified captain navigates along the outer reef to locate cetaceans while prioritizing their well-being. In addition to humpback whales, these nutrient-rich waters frequently host long-snouted spinner dolphins, pilot whales, and sea turtles along the coral barrier. If sea conditions allow and whale observations leave sufficient time, the crew anchors in the shallow lagoon for an extra highlight. Equipped with a mask, snorkel, and fins, you can step into the turquoise water for an optional snorkeling session with stingrays and blacktip reef sharks.
Designed specifically for travelers who prefer to observe wildlife from the comfort and safety of a vessel, this tour involves no swimming in the open sea with whales. Open to participants of all ages with no minimum age requirement, it is ideally suited for families with young children or anyone seeking a relaxed sight-seeing experience. All snorkeling gear is provided on board, along with complimentary water and fresh fruit juices. Round-trip transfers from your accommodation across Moorea are included for seamless logistics throughout the outing.
Operating daily from July 20 to November 20 with departures at 8:00 AM and 1:30 PM, boat availability fills quickly during peak whale season. Book your whale watching boat tour in Moorea today and prepare for an extraordinary journey across Polynesian waters!
