Activity description

Do you have a diving certification? Have fun exploring the seabed of Raiatea and Taha'a during exploration dives!

The lagoon of Raiatea and Taha'a is an ideal place for exploration diving in French Polynesia: between coral drop offs, passes allowing drift dives, and even a wreck which is the only real one in all of Polynesia, you will be amazed by diving in Raiatea and Taha'a! In total, the Te Mara Nui dive center offers exploration dives on 7 exceptional sites in the lagoon:

Miri Miri Ocean (all levels)
Very quiet dive without current from 10 to 20 meters in the ocean between Raiatea and Taha'a. The water is very clear and shallow, with a beautiful coral garden where you can find black tip sharks, schools of paddle perch and parrot fish.

The Nordby wreck (from Level 1)
Wreck of a 3-masted boat sunk in 1900 in the lagoon of Raiatea, in front of the Teavapiti pass, at a depth between 18 and 29 meters. It is 60 meters long and allows to observe surgeon fish, shrimps, nudibranchs and many other underwater animals. The most experienced divers will even be able to enter the wreck of the Nordby!

Teavapiti Pass (from Level 1)
Drift diving in the current channel entering or leaving the lagoon of Raiatea. Known for its rich fauna, the Teavapiti pass allows to meet among others jacks, barracudas, napoleon fish, as well as grey, black tip and white tip sharks.

Miri Pass (from Level 1)
Drift dive in this pass of West Raiatea at a depth of 10 to 20 meters to meet barracudas, leopard rays, schools of jacks, etc.

Miri pass: the 3 rocks (from PE 40)
Dive around 3 big rocks covered with coral and where white tip sharks are present, then discovery of a purple coral wall with emperor and royal angelfish.

Tiva Pass (from Level 1)
Diving in the lagoon southwest of Taha'a starting on a yellow coral wall, then in several canyons with crystal clear water.

Ceran Pass (from PE 40)
Drift dive east of Taha'a on a piton covered with yellow coral where it is possible to meet bigeye trevally, surgeon fish, white tip sharks, and sometimes impressive schools of barracudas.

The dive site(s) will be chosen not only according to your level and the weather conditions, but also according to your desires. With an instructor to guide you during your exploration dive in Raiatea and Taha'a, you will spend an unforgettable time discovering the incredible Polynesian fauna and flora!
