Activity description

Embark on a thrilling river trekking excursion in the Neda River near Kalamata for an unforgettable experience in the Peloponnese!

The Neda River is located in the Peloponnese region of Greece. It flows through Messenia, starting from Mount Lykaion and running westward to the Ionian Sea. The river was named after the nymph Neda, who was a goddess of the waters in Greek Mythology. The Neda River is notable for its natural beauty and the lush landscapes it passes through, including gorges, waterfalls, and dense vegetation.

The trip begins in the ancient village of Fygalia, located near the city of Kalamata. You'll meet the experienced guide and receive the equipment (wet suit, helmet, and waterproof bag). After a quick safety briefing, the river trekking adventure begins! The route starts at the entrance to the Neda Gorge at a nearby bridge. The gorge is characterised by its constantly varying landscape, turquoise waters, and majestic cliffs.

Following the guide, you'll travel along the stream by walking, hopping on rocks, and jumping on the riverbanks. At some points, you'll also swim in the refreshing waters. You'll pass by wild, unspoiled nature, with oak trees, narrow rocky passages, and beautiful ponds. The end of the trek leads you to a majestic 25 m (82 ft) waterfall, cascading into a pool of crystal-clear waters.

At the waterfall, you can enjoy a swim in the pediment while admiring the stunning scenery. For the more daring, you can try a challenging descent on a rope to the opening of the Stomion Cave. At the end of your adventure, a well-deserved picnic of delicious freshly baked bread, fruits and vegetables, homemade olive oil, and cheese will be served. You'll then return to the starting point at Fygalia.

Enjoy an exhilarating river trekking excursion at the magical Neda River near Kalamata to admire the breathtaking scenery of the Peloponnese region in Greece!
