Activity Snapshot
Activity description
Located in the heart of the beautiful Karpathos island in the southeastern Aegean Sea, a hiking trail up the Pini heights awaits you. Thanks to its subtropical climate, Karpathos, the second largest of the Greek Dodecanese islands, has a stunning landscape with diverse flora and fauna to offer.
While enjoying the easy start of this hike you will explore the rural and abandoned parts of Karpathos, where you can smell the fresh air or might be lucky to hear the local wildlife. Your hiking group will then head towards the east side of the island where you can spot Kyra Panagia but not before having a glimpse of Pigadia, Volada and Menetes in the distance. Right in front of you, the highest peak of this amazing Greek island becomes visible as the group passes the gentle slopes of mount Lastos. While you might encounter some cattle along the way you will be heading towards another great viewpoint and get to see the island’s neighbour; Kasos. After hiking down through a little canyon and exploring the steep walls formed over time by limestone, this adventurous hike will lead you to the final destination: the valley of Pini where you can see many historical churches along the path.
Height difference: 555m (1,821 ft) descent / 505m (1,657 ft) ascent
Distance: 12km (7.5 miles)
This hike is considered challenging and for someone with a good hiking condition that can handle significant ascends and descends. Paths are more uneven and some steep sections.
