Pigadia is the capital city of Karpathos, a Greek island situated in the Aegean Sea, forming part of the Dodecanese group. Pigadia is located on the southeastern coast of the island, and is known for its large port, charming village, and lush countryside.
The adventure begins at the starting point in Pigadia, where you'll be greeted by an experienced guide. After the guide provides a quick safety briefing and the equipment (walking sticks), the hike will begin, leading just outside the city of Pigadia. You don't need any previous hiking experience, however, the path is moderate, so a relatively good fitness level is required.
Following the path towards the Agia Kyriaki Chapel, you'll pass by old stavlos (the Greek word for cross), and abundant olive fields. As you gently ascend higher, you'll be treated to spectacular panoramic views of the crystal-clear Aegean Sea and the charming southern villages of Karpathos. Upon arrival at Agia Kyriaki, you'll have time to visit the inside of the chapel.
Agia Kyriaki Chapel is built in the traditional Greek Orthodox style, featuring whitewashed walls and a simple, serene interior. After admiring the unique architecture, you'll stop for a break in the chapel's shaded area, enjoying a cup of coffee or tea. The hike then continues through pine tree forests, with stunning views of the eastern side of Pigadia. The tour will end back at the starting point in Pigadia.
