About the activity
Explore the spectacular coastline of Methoni on a guided sea kayaking adventure to the protected island of Sapienza, in the south-west Peloponnese. This exciting sea kayaking trip combines paddling, history, wildlife observation and swimming in crystal-clear waters.
Your adventure begins on Methoni beach, beneath the impressive Venetian fortress known as the “eye of Venice”. After a safety briefing and paddling introduction, you will kayak along the castle walls before crossing the open-water channel towards Sapienza Island. Along the route, you may spot visible remains of ancient shipwrecks beneath the surface and stop for snorkelling near the island’s rugged coastline. Once on Sapienza Island, you will enjoy time to swim, relax on the beach and taste a homemade picnic prepared with local products.
The island is part of the Natura 2000 network and home to rare flora and fauna, including wild goats, mouflons and various bird species. The return route follows the northern coast of the island before paddling back to Methoni.
