Take in the sights and sounds of the Vatnajökull glacier's crystal blue ice cave on a caving trip from Jökulsárlón!
Iceland's second largest glacier, the Vatnajökull glacier is full of natural curiosities to discover, including this magnificent crystal blue ice cave to visit on a caving excursion from the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon. After meeting your guide on the edge of the Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon, not far from the famous Diamond Beach, you will board a super jeep to drive to the edge of the Vatnajökull glacier: once you arrive at your destination, your caving excursion in the crystal blue ice cave begins, lasting around 40 minutes! You will have plenty of free time to explore the cave at your own pace and take as many photos as you like.
The Jökulsárlón glacial lagoon is a must-see stop on any road-trip in Iceland, so make the most of the opportunity to take part in this caving trip in the crystal blue ice cave of the Vatnajökull glacier and discover a phenomenon that is only visible during the Icelandic winter!
- Meeting with the guide at the main car park of Jökulsárlón at least 15 minutes before the tour starts
- Transfer to the ice cave by super jeep (approx. 1 hour)
- Briefing on the cave visit and equipment
- Guided tour of the ice cave with free time to explore for around 40 minutes in total
- Return by super jeep to the main car park of Jökulsárlón and end of the activity
Activity requirements
Please arrive at least 15 minutes before the start of the activity.
It is very important to wear warm clothing, preferably waterproof, and good hiking boots so that you can enjoy the excursion to the full.
Special terms
⚠️ We advise you to spend the night in the vicinity of Vatnajökull as road and weather conditions can be unpredictable during Icelandic winters: make sure you check the weather and road conditions before you leave as the weather can change rapidly.
