The crew of Dolswim will meet you at Grande Rivière Noire to go whale watching in the south-west of Mauritius off the coast. On board the boat, the skippers will give you a briefing about this superb half-day activity: the types of whales you will encounter and their habits, the rules to be observed for their well-being, and safety measures on the boat.

You'll be on the water for around 3 hours, heading out into the open sea in search of the whales that populate this part of the Indian Ocean to the west of Mauritius. Depending on the season, you can observe two types of whale: humpback whales, which are present during the Mauritian winter (July to September/October), and sperm whales, which live virtually all year round on the west coast of Mauritius. Sperm whales live in groups of between 10 and 20 individuals, so if you manage to catch a glimpse of them, you're in for an extraordinary experience!

Whale watching in Mauritius is a must-do during your stay on the island. So if you're staying near Flic en Flac, don't hesitate to join Dolswim at Grande Rivière Noire to see the whales of the Indian Ocean!

The instructions were quickly and professional. These guys are licensed organization, so they don’t allow to swim or take closer to the whales, and this is proudly! They understand and respect our nature.

We were taken about 7/8km off the mauritius coast by speedboat. Tbe crew kept in touch with local fishermen and other whale watchers in order to locate a pod of whales. After an hour we struck gold and located a pod of Sperm Whales we stayed with them for an hour watching them dive and swim before having to make our way back to shore. It was an absolute privilege to see these magnificent creatures in their natural habitat!

What a wonderful and unique morning we spent with the lovely crew. We were lucky to see at least 7 young whales, quite close too... Wonderful and fascinating creatures!
