On this fishing boat tour to Øygarden, you'll depart from Bergen, the second-largest city of Norway, often called the 'Gateway to the Fjords'. Øygarden is a striking archipelago located just west of Bergen, renowned for its rugged beauty, traditional fishing villages, and unique coastal landscapes.

The fishing excursion in Øygarden begins at the meeting point in Bergen, where you'll be picked up by your experienced guide. After a 35-minute scenic drive, you'll arrive at Syltøy, a small island located within the Øygarden archipelago. Upon arrival at the base in Syltøy, you'll receive the fishing equipment and a safety briefing. Then, you'll board the 6-metre (20-foot) open safe boat and prepare for your fishing tour in Øygarden!

The captain will set sail along the stunning archipelago, passing by striking cliffs, rocky coastlines and open views of the North Sea. The experienced instructor will teach you the best techniques for fishing from the boat. You'll catch the freshest local crabs and fish, such as shrimp and mackerel. The guide will also share insights about the importance of fishing to this region and the local communities.

After your fishing trip in Øygarden, you'll return to the fish house in Syltøy for your outdoor cooking lesson! In this historic building, the guide will teach you the more humane ways to cook your catches. The meal you cook will depend on what you catch, usually consisting of boiled crabs, fish soup, or barbecued mackerel fillets. Apple juice from a local farm will also be served with the meal. After learning more about the traditional history and culture of Øygarden, the experience comes to an end. The guide will then drive you back to the starting point in Bergen.

Learn the best fishing techniques while immersing yourself in the rugged natural beauty of Øygarden on this outdoor cooking excursion and boat tour from Bergen!

The whole experience was awesome. My teenage sons had.never fished from a boat and were totally absorbed. It helped we had a dry and sunny day but we were given warm suits and gloves and hats if needed. The instructor was super and the lunch at the end delicious !

A great experience with two very knowledgeable guides/fishermen/cooks! Tour was great even starting out from the drive out from Bergen, with our guide sharing a lot about the area along the way. Once out on the sea we were greeted with beautiful views of the the sea and the surrounding islands, and were provided with all necessary equipment (rain jackets, pants, lifevest, fishing rods). Our guides managed everything very well and cooked up a delicious fish soup at end of it, topped off with Norwegian-style waffles with brumost, cream cheese and jam.

This was so awesome! We were taken out in an authentic fishing boat on a nearly private tour (just us and one other couple) and fished a few different spots out on the fjord while discussing some of the history as well as the various fish, fishing techniques and cooking styles. We only caught two small cod variations so that was a bit underwhelming but can’t make the fish bite if they don’t want to and it was plenty for the Nordic Bergen Fish Soup the owner cooked for us upon returning which was incredible! We also pulled up the crab traps and got a few of those little guys for the stock. We had pure apple cider which was also amazing and were made waffles for dessert which we got to try the infamous brown cheese on well. The owner told us stories about the history of the place while we ate. It was honestly such an amazing hometown experience and was exactly what we were seeking to experience authentic Norway.
