About the activity
Embark on a fun, relaxing, and cultural experience in the Arctic landscapes of northern Norway with this amazing ice fishing excursion by snowshoes in Malangen, near Tromsø! Located in Troms county, Malangen is a 60-kilometre-long, beautiful fjord, only a 1-hour drive from Tromsø. With wild Arctic landscapes and easy access, this breathtaking place is perfect to experience all that winter has to offer, including Northern Lights chases, skiing, snowmobiling, and, of course, ice fishing.
On the day of your ice fishing excursion near Tromsø, you'll need to arrive at the Into Nature Arctic headquarters at least 10 minutes before the starting time of the experience. There, you'll meet the expert instructor who will accompany you throughout the experience. They'll explain the itinerary for the day and explain the safety measures to follow to have a good time. Next, they'll distribute the winter overalls, boots, and snowshoes, and give you some time to gear up!
Once you're ready for the Arctic temperatures of northern Norway, you'll set off! You'll snowshoe through breathtaking landscapes for around 20 to 30 minutes until you arrive at the frozen lake, where you'll set up your fishing camp. Your instructor will teach you exactly how to use the ice drill and distribute the rest of the fishing gear, so you can get to fishing. While you try your hand at catching the cod, saithe, flounder and halibut that tend to be found in Malangen's waters, your instructor will build a campfire, where you'll share a delicious snack and hot drink to keep you warm.
Keep in mind that temperatures in the Arctic can range from 5 to -30 degrees Celsius, so to prepare for this wonderful ice fishing excursion by snowshoes in Malangen, near Tromsø, your instructor recommends bringing wool or thermal under layers, good middle layers, and a winter jacket that you can wear under the thermal suit if it's very cold.
