A small port town opening onto the North Sea in the county of Rogaland, Norway, Stavanger is an ideal destination for outdoor enthusiasts. But before heading out of town for a hike to Preikestolen, why not try sea kayaking right from the city centre on this excursion through the Stavanger islands? Just 10 minutes by bus from the city centre, the certified instructors at Nordic Paddling will be waiting to take you on an adventure combining historical sightseeing with sea kayak exploration of Stavanger.
Your activity begins at Hundvåg, where you'll meet your experienced guide and local specialist. You'll then set off across the channel to the island of Engøyholmen, paddling aboard a "færring" — a restored traditional wooden rowing boat. On arrival at the island, you'll discover how the fishing and canning industry shaped Stavanger through a guided tour of the Engøyholmen Maritime Museum.
After this first stop, it's time to set off on the sea kayak excursion through the Stavanger islands. Still accompanied by your guide — who will provide all the necessary equipment and explain how to use it — you'll enjoy a convivial experience within a small group limited to 8 participants. All around you, the natural landscapes surrounding the city unfold alongside the remains of the former canning industry.
Available during the summer season only, from mid-June to the end of August, this beginner-friendly sea kayak outing lets you make the most of Norway's most stable weather conditions. Book your sea kayak excursion in Stavanger now and set off to explore the Norwegian coastal heritage!
