Activity description
Climb up the unique volcano of Piton de la Fournaise and discover all its mysteries with a professional mountain leader.
Patrick is a nature enthusiast who will take you with him on this initiatory journey into the lunar environment of one of the most active volcanoes on the planet, in the heart of Réunion Island!
Your companion will introduce you to this Hawaiian volcanic massif and its eruptive mechanisms during your hike. You will learn everything there is to know about this mineral universe, the geological history, the recent eruptions and lava flows.
The Volcanological Observatory was set up in 1979 nearby the Piton de la Fournaise and is a valuable source of information for the scientists. You will cross the different stations which constitute monitoring network of the volcano as you go along. They record the slightest movements and changes of the Piton de la Fournaise.
This intermediate difficulty hike of about 12 kilometers with an altitude difference of 600 meters allows you to approach the peculiar vegetation of the volcano. Prepare yourself to live an incredible hike in the heart of Réunion Island!
You will meet your guide for a briefing on the activity and the itinerary before setting off.
You will cross the limit of Pas de Bellecombe and enter the unique atmosphere of the volcano.
Patrick will take you up the Dolomieu summit and the wild environment of the island.
You will enjoy every minute of your hike and picnic on the volcano while sharing hiking stories with your guide.
Walking time: approximately 6 to 7 hours, 12 kilometers
