About the activity

Scotland has become a major destination for canyoning over the last 10 years and has some great venues due to its natural landscapes, which are full of mountains and steep river gorges. So put on your wetsuit, buoyancy aid, helmet & harness, hike up the hillside and jump on in with Active Highs!

Based in Lochaber, the Outdoor Capital of the UK, the Active Highs activity centre is on the shores of Loch Oich, only 10 miles from local landmarks like Loch Ness and Fort Augustus. The River Garry runs through the Great Glen and Fort William, a region renowned for its iconic lakes and wild landscape in the heart of the Scottish Highlands. A two-hour drive from Inverness, Citylink run regular services from Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inverness, Oban and Skye. You can also get a bus directly from Glasgow Airport to Fort William (twice a day in the summer).

On the day of your canyoning excursion near Fort William, you'll need to arrive at the meeting point on the A86 road. There, you'll meet your expert instructor, who will introduce themselves and distribute the helmets, wetsuits, harnesses, neoprene boots, and life jackets. After you've geared up, they'll explain how the activity will work and what you need to do to stay safe. Once you're ready, it's time to go! You'll climb, hike, abseil, swim, and enjoy the breathtaking scenery of the Scottish Highlands as you challenge your body in different ways to get through the obstacles of the canyon. If you don't know how to swim, you can still participate, but please let your instructor know so they can prepare.

Super time in the river and waterfalls sliding and jumping. Great to get the heart and adrenaline pumping. Jamie was an excellent and fun guide throughout. Recommended.
