Just upstream from Loch Leven, only a 40-minute drive from Fort William, lies Grey Mare's Tail, a superb waterfall standing about 80 metres high. It can be discovered on foot during a walk, or in a more active way by tackling Scotland's only via ferrata. For those who really want to challenge themselves and get a full dose of thrills, it is possible to combine this via ferrata with the descent of the Grey Mare's Tail Canyon, thanks to this excursion offered by Vertical Descents LTD. To participate, you must not only be aged 16 or over, but it is also recommended to have prior experience in canyoning or climbing, as this canyon is the most technical in the United Kingdom.
Indeed, the Grey Mare's Tail Canyon is a demanding, narrow gorge dotted with overhangs, long slides, jumps, and a multi-pitch 90-metre abseil. It will take you about 3 hours to complete, just like the preceding via ferrata, which consists of fixed cables, ladders, and footbridges. A professional instructor will be by your side throughout the adventure, helping you overcome the obstacles while ensuring your safety. They will provide all the necessary equipment for the activity (wetsuit, helmet, harness, etc.). To ensure you have the best possible experience, you will participate in a small group of no more than 4 participants!
If you want to go canyoning in Scotland in a sporty way, do not miss the chance to take on the Grey Mare's Tail Canyon. You will have the pleasure of getting your fill of thrills in a magnificent natural setting, surrounded by a lush forest!
