About the activity

Experience the thrill of the Caminito del Rey Via Ferrata in El Chorro, near Málaga! It is a 4-hour adventure featuring suspension bridges, a zipline, and stunning panoramic views over the Gaitanes Gorge.

Located in the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes Natural Park, this Via Ferrata is rated K3 (moderate) on the Hüsler scale. It’s accessible to anyone with a reasonable fitness level and a strong sense of adventure. No previous experience required, just a steady step and no fear of heights. The route is especially known for its spectacular views, including a unique aerial perspective of the famous Caminito del Rey.

Your guide will welcome you at the meeting point in El Chorro (Álora), where you’ll check in and receive your technical gear. After a detailed safety briefing on how to use the harness, helmet, energy absorber, and pulley, you’ll begin with a 20–30 minute approach hike to the base of the wall.

The via ferrata section lasts around 1.5 to 2 hours, featuring a mix of vertical ascents, exposed traverses, and suspended bridges (including monkey bridges and a Tibetan bridge), all secured with a lifeline and iron rungs. Along the way, you’ll make several short stops to rest and enjoy the scenery, with a longer break right before the highlight of the route: a 35-meter zipline with a view over the valley.

The total distance (approach + ferrata + return) is about 3 km, with a maximum altitude of 250 meters above the river. After the zipline, a scenic descent of around 30 minutes brings you back to the starting point, full of adrenaline and unforgettable memories.

The activity is run in small groups (minimum 2 people), ensuring personal attention and guidance throughout. The guide is there to support you at every step and even suggest the best spots for those epic adventure photos.

This route is not recommended for those who experience strong vertigo, as it includes visually intense aerial sections. Once you begin, there are no intermediate exit points, so be sure you're ready to commit to the full experience. Free parking is available near the meeting point, and for those arriving by train, El Chorro station is conveniently located just 200 meters from the starting point, with direct connections from Málaga. If you're driving, expect a journey of approximately 50 minutes from Málaga. Toilets can be found at the hotel reception next to the meeting area, and you can leave personal belongings either in your vehicle or with the guide, just bring a backpack with the essentials!

Many participants start out nervous, but by the end, they can’t believe what they’ve accomplished. Some even say the hanging bridge is better than any amusement park ride!

Join this unforgettable Via Ferrata adventure in El Chorro and discover the Caminito del Rey area from a whole new perspective!

A great via Ferrara. You really get to go to places that otherwise would have been reserved for professionals only.
