Sign up for an unforgettable, unique, and fun excursion in Swedish Lapland as an expert instructor drives you around the Arctic wilderness in search of a good place to observe one of the Earth's most spectacular phenomena on this Northern Lights snowmobile-drawn sledge excursion in Brändön, near Luleå! Brändön is a small locality right next to Luleå, in eastern Swedish Lapland. This incredible town is located within the Arctic Circle, which makes it one of the best places to observe the beautiful aurora borealis, not just because of its strategic location, but also because its wide expanses of untouched wilderness, away from the artificial lights of the city, are perfect to improve visibility of the phenomenon. With that strategic combination, Brändön is the perfect place to experience most winter activities, such as snowshoeing, dog sledging, and, of course, Northern Lights searches in all their different forms.
On the day of your snowmobile-pulled sledge excursion in Brändön, near Luleå, you'll need to arrive at the Brändön Lodge at least 30 minutes before the start of the experience (you'll find free parking on-site, or you can contact your instructor for pick-up options in Luleå). There, you'll meet your instructor, who will welcome you to the lodge and explain the itinerary for the night, as well as a few safety rules to follow in order to have a good time. Finally, they will distribute the thermal suits, boots, socks, hats, gloves, and fleeces so you can put everything on and prepare for the freezing temperatures of the Arctic.
Once you've climbed onto the blanket-covered sledge and are comfortably seated, you'll set off! With their snowmobile, your instructor will pull your sledge through the snow and search for the perfect place with little to no clouds and away from the city lights to stop and wait for the Northern Lights to appear. They will teach you how to build a fire in the snow, boil tea, coffee or chocolate, and distribute delicious cake so you can all sit comfortably and stare at the sky as they tell you interesting facts about the Aurora Borealis, the local fauna and flora, and the incredible sea and forest landscapes of Swedish Lapland. Keep in mind that, since the Northern Lights are a natural and completely unpredictable phenomenon, your instructor can't guarantee that you will see them, though they will try their best to take you to the places where they are usually visible.
Don't forget that you will spend the 2 hours of the experience out in the Arctic cold, so you should bring very warm layers to wear under the suits your instructor will lend you, including wool or thermal underwear, extra layers on top, and even a wind and waterproof jacket that you can wear under the suit if it's really cold outside. You should also bring a hat, scarf, gloves, snacks, and anything else you might need (medicine, glasses, etc.) to spend an amazing moment on this Northern Lights snowmobile-drawn sledge excursion in Brändön!
